Smokey
is a black lab mix. He is 41/2 years old. Smokey was found in a dog pound
in
Florida
. He was trained in
Texas
at
Canine
Academy
. He worked in
Sacramento
for 21/2 years with his first handler who worked in the crime lab in
Sacramento
. He moved to Jamul in March of this year and started working with his new
handler
Troy Morrison
. Smokey is a passive alert dog. He sits when he wants to alert the
handler of the presents of an accelerant. He is trained to detect sixteen
different accelerants. He is a food reward dog which means he gets a
little food for a reward each time he finds an accelerant. He loves to
work on fire scenes as well as visit kids in school programs. He has
trained with the
Chula Vista
Fire department and hope to continue with there program. He also plans to
work with the Burn Institute in their prevention programs and activities. |
